TRUMP’S DAUGHTER WORRIES ABOUT A DIFFERENT BURN IN CHINA
Donald Trump has caught headlines on the campaign trail with his disdain for manufacturing being lured to Chinese and Mexican marketplaces. Of course, many Trump-backed products find the allure of cheap labour and mass markets difficult to ignore. While on the campaign trail against Republicans and Democrats alike the slogan ‘feel the Bern’ seems rather ironic considering this week’s developments.
Trump’s daughter Ivanka has her name attached to the brand of scarves being manufactured in China. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that 20,000 scarves are being recalled for failing to meet the Federal Flammability Standard.
The issue with the scarves are their high burn risk rating. The notice said ‘Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled scarves and return them to the place where purchased for a full refund’.
The 100% rayon scarves, manufactured in China and embroidered with the name of the daughter of Republican presidential front-runner ‘do not meet the federal flammability standards for clothing textiles, posing a burn risk,’ the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced in a public notice.
The recalled scarves were sold between October 2014 to January 2016 in stores such as Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Global Brands Group, headquartered in Hong Kong, did not respond to media requests for comments on Thursday.
Manufacturers need to consider regulatory bodies and inspection criteria in both the organisation’s host country and producing locations. Product recalls are a serious impediment to profitability and a risk to consumer confidence.
