VACCINES SOLD ILLEGALLY BY MOTHER-DAUGHTER DUO IN 18 PROVINCES
Chinese authorities have arrested a mother and her daughter for selling almost 90 million USD (570 million RMB) worth of illegal vaccines across 20 or more provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.
It is illegal to sell vaccines in China without correct licensing.
The pair had spent the last five years purchasing twenty five vaccine strains from around one hundred pharmaceutical salespersons, some of whom where licensed and others without permissions. With the vaccines in hand they then resold vaccines to countless illegal agents at inflated prices, according to the Jinan Public Security Bureau.
The pair’s products were not transported under approved conditions, meaning their quality suffered and became ineffective, the side effects of which can be disability or even death.
The arrest is the latest in a string of arrests, with similar cases occurring in Inner Mongolia, Henan, Hebei and Shandong.
The case shows discrepancies between certified corporate entities with strict quality control and licensing and the dangers of rogue agents cutting costs to penetrate the market at inflated prices. With more and more crackdowns on illegal operations across all sectors, quality control and licensing are central to commercial success and public safety.
